Caring for Your Smile After Invisalign

Caring for Your Smile After Invisalign

Undergoing Invisalign treatment was likely a big investment of your time and impacted your life greatly. Now that your treatment is over and your new, beautiful smile has been revealed to you, you’re probably wondering how to maximize your results and maintain the appearance of your smile. Maintaining your results should be easy for most Invisalign users, as it maintains part of your routine while implementing more freedom.

Why Do I Need To Maintain My Results?

Even after undergoing treatment and moving your teeth to optimal positions, the change isn’t permanent. Your teeth will likely try to shift back to their pre-treatment positions because that is what feels natural for your body. If you don’t take care of your teeth after treatment, all the progress your teeth have made will be lost.

What Do I Do After Treatment to Preserve My Results?

There are many actions that you will need to regularly take in order to preserve your Invisalign results. It is important to take proper care of your teeth in general, however, it is especially important to do so after finishing with an intense treatment that has completely changed your teeth and what your body views as normal. If you want to maximize your results and ensure that they are lifelong, take the following steps:

  • Wear your retainer-This is the most important step after treatment. Though you will no longer need to wear aligners during the day, they are still needed at night. After treatment, you will need to wear a retainer to bed every night in order to preserve your results and train your teeth to stay in their new positions.
  • Brush and floss your teeth- During treatment, this step was needed multiple times a day in order to keep both your teeth and the aligners clean. While you no longer need to brush after every meal, unless you really would like to, it is still important to brush your teeth, especially at night before you put your retainer in. All dentists recommend daily brushing and flossing in order to improve dental health.
  • Regularly visit your dentist- It is crucial to visit your regular dentist during treatment to make sure that all of your teeth are healthy and there are no outstanding dental issues that need to be addressed. After treatment, you still need to continue this practice to preserve your dental health.

Regularly implementing the above practices into your daily life will give you the best results possible after your Invisalign treatment. Most of these practices should be familiar from your treatment, so it should be like second nature and provide you with a little more freedom in your routine. After a bit of time, you will settle into your new routine and be able to relax with it.
